Poetry is a way to reach inside the soul and shine a light. The fluid use of metaphor allows for emotions, needs, and epiphanies to flow in surprising and genuine ways.
I also use poetry as a way into mindfulness. Mindfulness is a way of entering into the present, connecting to our senses, breath, and surroundings in an open, non-judging way. It is a way to observe instead of be caught by our thoughts. It is a surprisingly simple and effective way to find peace and acceptance in the middle of turmoil. Some of the poetry and thoughts are my attempts to find mindfulness in the diverse pulls and weights of this world.
